Where to eat, drink and be merry in Rosebank

Our favourite bars and restaurants in the trendy suburb of Rosebank

Rosebank is one of the trendiest suburbs in Joburg to see and be seen. These are our top places to eat, drink and be merry in this vibrant, multicultural, cosmopolitan suburb.

Marble

There is eye-opening dusky glamour at the bar of this fine-dining restaurant. The setting is as lavish as you will find in Joburg, with earthy and neutral tones offset against gold and turquoise accents – it lacks nothing. Pop in at sunset to remind yourself that such places exist in this city. Make the most of them.

A Streetbar Named Desire

Welcome to party town. Fiesta-ville. Get ready to go down loco! It is Rosebank’s answer to Baja California where the tequila is flowing freely and ideal for washing down tapas. If you are looking to make friends, head here. Do not plan for a quiet drink!

Mix Cocktail Bar

It is the dolce vita at this cocktail bar, with continental-style service, curated cocktails and Jamaican tapas. Lively and always busy, but exclusive because of its size, the setting offers the rare luxury of peace and quiet in central Rosebank. Visiting in the early evening is perfect for a cocktail before dinner.

Sin+Tax

With an undercover speakeasy feel, this bar is discreet, dark and great for small groups. The clubby but unstuffy surroundings make it a central Rosebank legend. Go whenever you can get a table. It is easier later in the night.

Editor’s choice

Rosebank has been getting no end of luxury from the Perrier-Jouët rooftop bar (previously the Veuve Clicquot champagne bar) since it opened last year. Champagne is the star attraction not just because the selection is extensive (there is a selection of local MCCs including Charles Fox Brut and Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel in addition to the Perrier-Jouët varieties), but also because the space itself is as enchanting as can be, inspired by the Maison’s delicate floral style. Soak up the sun all day long or arrive just in time for sunset high above the city below. To make a booking, call 011 344 8442.
