Get Lost Together With These Romantic Spots

Looking for a romantic getaway? We have 5 stunning options for you!

57 Waterberg Lodge

Only 3 hours from Johannesburg, this is the perfect choice for a romantic getaway. With just five guest suites, the incredibly intimate setting combines privacy and peace with everything you need for a perfect stay, and then some.

What we love most: Each room has a private patio and a Jacuzzi for late night star gazing. The heated towel rail is also a treat.

PS: There’s some incredible wildlife to see if you opt for a game drive, and it would be remiss of us not to suggest you venture out to see the Big 5 – but we do understand if you miss it this time, and just decide to stay in bed.

Valley Lodge and Spa

Scenically situated on the banks of the Magalies River and just an hour from Johannessburg, Valley Lodge offers superior accommodation in a majestic, indigenous garden setting. It’s an ideal country escape for that romantic weekend you’ve been planning.

What we love most: Dining in one of the various venues is a treat! You could order a picnic basket to be served while you sit along the riverfront. Now that should score you some big romance points.

PS: You’ll fall in love with the seductive spa and its hedonistic offerings. Don’t be surprised if you end up spending more time in the Spa and Hydra Therapy Centre than you had planned.

La Provence D’Afrique

Consider it a French romance without the long flight, because it’s just in Magaliesburg! There are seven unusual chateaux-style suites, designed and decorated by owner and artist Charles Gotthard, that run off a seemingly ordinary street. The rooms take you straight to France with the antique furniture, Victorian bathtubs and wood burning fireplaces. Breakfast is served under weeping willows beside the Magalies River, a setting even more romantic than the rooms.

What we love most: The French courtyard, complete with a three-tier fountain and murals. Not to mention the four poster beds in the different rooms.

PS: Early morning yoga classes are available if you need to loosen up a bit. There is also a host of other activities to do nearby, as well as a spa.

Illyria House

What is known today as Albania on the map, Illyria was once the ancient name for the coast on the Adriatic Sea, and the setting for Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’. Today, Illyria House is an over the top venue just outside of Pretoria, which has a comic romance all its own.

From white gloved butlers, to six double luxury suites all furnished in white and cream décor, it really is something out of a story book. Fine dining by candlelight and stiff musicians who play antiquated instruments are the order of the day. If you’ve always wanted to be a princess for the night, and your significant other is up for a different experience, then put this service to the test.

What we love most: The Catharina boasts an en-suite bathroom with a vintage bath tub on lion paw feet.

PS: The Catharina Suite has been described as the number one Honeymoon Suite in South Africa by various publications.

Forum Homini

Closing the list is an old favourite because it just works, and we love it! Situated on a private game estate in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind, one of the world’s most famous heritage sites, Forum Homini is an architectural wonder set in a quiet and poetic setting with extensive views of the Highveld.

What we love most: The Honeymoon Suite comes with a luxurious spa bath, double indoor and outdoor shower and private dining area for two!

PS: The food is incredible and mostly locally sourced. You won’t regret this.
