Brahman Hills in the beautiful Natal Midlands is set to make your Christmas Day a memorable one this year with a buffet lunch that will satisfy every appetite. You can even choose the venue that suits you best – there’s an ‘adults only’ venue for guests over the age of 16, or a family-friendly venue that offers the younger members of the family access to the garden and a play area complete with jumping castle, lawn games, and even a visit from Father Christmas.
Situated in the Midland hills of the Blue Crane Nature Reserve where Brahman cattle and abundant wildlife roam free, Brahman Hills is a home-away-from-home, particularly on Christmas Day. Non-resident guests are welcome to book a table and enjoy the scrumptious spread, giving Mom a break from the kitchen this year.
Christmas lunch is set to be a buffet style affair that will leave the tables groaning from the mouth-watering selection. Cold starters include chicken tikka salad with cranberries and lime yoghurt, choice of fresh fruit, Parma ham and grapeseed oil vinaigrette, smoked Salmon with lemon aioli and red onion, cured cinnamon Tuna loin with green goddess dressing and a Charcuteries platter with jams, pickles, local cheeses and flat breads, home-made rolls and breads with butter. Vegetarians can enjoy the spinach and pomegranate salad with orange segments and dressing as well as the roasted sweet potato, almonds and wild rice salad.
The main course will leave you hard-pressed to make a choice. From traditional slow-roasted whole turkey with almond and parsley stuffing, roasted lemon thyme whole chicken and rosemary and pecan stuffed roast leg of lamb to roast pork leg with crackling, Teriyaki-glazed gammon and Durban chicken curry there is more than enough choice to satisfy every palate. Mains are accompanied by honey and vanilla sweetened pumpkin, grilled country vegetables with farm butter, roasted garlic and herb potatoes, grilled line fish, mussels with sauce Americana, lamb and chickpea casserole, chicken and mushroom pie with onion gravy, mint sauce, roti, sweet chilli sauce, tartar sauce, mango atchar and chopped chillies on the side.
Dessert is an equally lavish affair. The spread includes traditional Christmas mince pies, Christmas cookies, traditional trifle with fresh whipped cream, as well as other melt-in-the-mouth delectables like Malva pudding with vanilla custard, caramel, banana and biscuit tart, mni peppermint crisp, Lamington squares with chocolate dipping sauce, mini lemon meringues, chocolate mousse with granadilla jelly, fruit salad with dehydrated milk and for those who don’t have a sweet tooth, there’s a local cheese board with preserves and biscuits.
Booking and pre-payment is essential. The buffet menu is R525 per person. Kids under 12 R262.50 and kids under three eat for free. All prices exclude drinks. The Christmas Day buffet will be open from 12pm to 3.30pm. Bookings close on 18 December or once the venues are sold out.
